Come join me, on a visit to my family who live on this magnificent Island of Jersey!  It is the largest of the four islands that are part of the Channel Islands, closer to France than to England. They are however considered to be part of the “British Islands” not to be confused with the “British Isles”.

Jersey has a long and interesting history, dating back 25,000 years, when they were attached to the landmass of continental Europe; they were eventually separated by rising sea levels. There is an interesting mixture of French and English culture on the island, as well as its own particular flavor. During the French revolution many of the wealthier aristocracy took refuge in Jersey, and during the Second World War it was occupied by the Germans. Jersey is now a very active financial center, with its own tax laws, offering a “tax haven” to many.

We have a wonderful seven night trip planned for you, which will introduce you to both the beauty, and the rich culture of the island. You will be staying in an Edwardian hotel, situated in downtown St. Helier, within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and minutes from the beach. They have a delightful restaurant and bar overlooking the hotel gardens.

For such a small island, Jersey preserves a lot of its land in farmland , with the traditional British “walking paths” running throughout. Much of the coast line is high, with wonderful cliffs to walk along, and beautiful coves to visit. The architecture is magnificent, the gardens truly beautiful, helped by the mild climate. On your walks, you will have many opportunities to visit local cafes, be sure to try the mussels which are great specialty of the island. Your trip will also include a catamaran crossing to Guernsey, another island to explore. This trip is an exceptional way to visit these islands, and I know you will want to go back. On Saturday night there will be a welcome dinner at your hotel to meet your guide, and myself, to discuss your visit. Come walking with me, and explore this wonderful island. We will visit my family for a family dinner, where you will be introduced to the game of “Petanque” the French version of bocce ball, which has become one of the most popular games in Jersey.

There is an also a wonderful opportunity to improve your photographic skills with an optional half day photographic workshop with your guide Remi and professional photographer Gary Grimshaw. This will be an “Introduction to Landscape Photography”, how it has been approached by classic photographers, and how to handle your own digital camera. The course will include a short guided walk with personal tuition from Gary, ending with a summary of your progress.
